The Last Request is a compelling read. Ms. Burlake takes her reader on a journey through North Africa, the Balkans and Mexico following clues Benton Prowers left for his daughter Amy. Along the way, we readers are educated in iconography, geography, history, and, most importantly, human behavior. This book was a pleasure, and I look […]
If you’re looking for a present for someone who likes history/religion/archaelogy/thrillers, get The Last Request. With The Bystander, Katherine Burlake established herself as a writer who could weave politics, current events, and international intrigue into a compelling, fast paced story. She’s upped her game with The Last Request. Amy Prowers crosses borders and time, and […]
An impressive sequel to The Bystander, Amy Power’s global adventures continue to intrigue the reader. A book that reminded me of Indiana Jones, filled with Nazi history and lots of action. The book reflects Burlake’s knowledge of the world and it’s history and took me around the world!
Well written, compelling and full wonderful descriptions of fascinating places. A history lesson and mystery in one, great follow up to The Bystander.
“Walk in the culture of Saudi Arabia, experience the dessert, understand how today was formed by its history. For me, reading this book was an amazingly awakening experience of Saudi Arabia…..AND, in contrast, of my life! Read this book and see today in a different, informed context.” Jaci Buckmaster
An outstanding novel vividly explaining the life style, customs, and politics of the people who reside in Saudi Arabia. This was particularly enlightening for me as my knowledge of this country is limited. The description of the terrain and the weather patterns made it clear how difficult it is to navigate in this country. The […]
The BYSTANDER is an adventure set in the Arabian deserts. The story has an authentic feel, perhaps because the author worked for many years in various assignments in the Middle East. Anyone who enjoyed thrilling tales of “Indiana Jones” will enjoy this book. I did. -David A. McCormick
A sweeping story about the Middle East that is very realistic. While this story does not predict the current events, you can’t help but be swept up in the story. Who is going to win? Or maybe a better question, who loses? – Eric C.
